About the Studio

The artist in residence, Maureen Doherty, being an avid rider and owner of horses, found it was only natural to combine her love and talent for art with all things horses and tack, her favorite subjects to draw and paint. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Before becoming an urban rancher and mother of three, Maureen worked for many years as a commercial artist. She has experience with product illustration, full color tabloid illustration, commercial photography, and commercial illustration. She is a graduate of the Art Institute of Seattle, and also studied education and nutrition at CWU.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Since 2002 Maureen has been instructing art classes to children of all ages, and has run a popular Summer Art & Horse Camp. She is very passionate about art and teaching and loves when people find their creative style. 


In the 2008 Equine Art show, the Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Emerald Downs awarded Maureen with a first place Vivian F. McMurray award for her art titled "Kai." She has received several awards in juried art shows with the Bellevue Art Museum, including first place for the drawing titled "Hide and Seek".
